Activities: Fishing

Inyo County's Eastern Sierra is a renowned trout fishing paradise. Whether it is High Sierra Lakes, roadside streams or wild trout creeks, the big ones are there. Trout are stocked by the California Department of Fish and Game and with special plants of Alper's Trophy Trout. The Regular Trout season is open from the last Saturday in April through October. An early season in southern Inyo starts the first week-end in March. Check Fish and Game Regulations for specific dates. Annually Trout Derbies are held. The Lone Pine Early Opener Derby is held at Diaz Lake, Bishop's Blake Jones Derby at Pleasant Valley Reservoir and Independence Father's Day Weekend Derby in the surrounding waters. Special Alper's Trophy Trout are planted during the regular season derbies. A special bonus is warm water fishing on the Owens Valley floor, where bass, catfish and crappie are found in the off-reach streams, ditches and small lakes. Check out the areas east of Big Pine, Independence and Lone Pine.
